Ruling CPP Denies Election Fraud Allegation

Cambodia (kohker) - The ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) has denied allegation that it colluded with the National Election Committee in stealing votes in the recent parliamentary election.

In a statement dated August 19, 2013, the CPP asserted that it always contested past elections including the fifth parliamentary election held on July 28, 2013 in a peaceful, honest, transparent, free and fair manner in accordance with the electoral regulations, procedures and code of conduct.

"The allegation that the CPP has colluded with the NEC in stealing is unfounded and intended to cause confusion among the public opinions on the election process in Cambodia,"said the statement.

The ruling party also said it maintained its stance on talks with the opposition Cambodian National Rescue Party in order to resolve various problems by peaceful means. It also called on the people to remain calm and unite in maintaining peace, social stability for the sake of the nation.
