Constitutional Council Begins to Receive Election Complaints
Cambodia – The Constitutional
Council has issued a notification informing the public that the country’s top
institution began to receive complaints related to the recent parliamentary
election on August 16 to 19, 2013.
According to the notification dated August 16, 2013, any political parties that do not satisfy with decisions made by the National Election Committee (NEC) on their complaints against the official preliminary results of the July 28 general election may file their appeals with the Constitutional Council any time during the above period.
The opposition Cambodia National
Rescue Party (CNRP) has filed 17 complaints against the election results in
polling stations in Kratie, Siem Reap, Battambang and Kandal Constituencies
after the NEC released its official preliminary election results on August 12.
On August 15, the NEC rejected the
opposition party’s complaint against the election results in polling stations
in Kratie constituency, claiming its complaint did not have merit. The election
body continued its settlement of the opposition’s remaining complaints on
August 16.
