NEC Releases Preliminary Election Results
Cambodia – The National Election Committee (NEC) on Monday
morning released its official preliminary results of the July 28 general
election, clearly showing the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) is the
winner.
According to the NEC’s announcement, the CPP received
3,235,969, votes nationwide, which can allow it to win up to 68 seats of the
total 123 seats in the National Assembly, while the opposition Cambodia
National Rescue Party (CNRP) received 2,946,176 votes, which can allow it to
win the remaining 55 seats.
The opposition party won the majority of seats in the
country’s four largest constituencies of Phnom Penh, Prey Veng, Kandal and
Kampong Cham.
