No Response from Cambodia National Rescue Party to NEC’s Appeal
Cambodia - Secretary General
of the National Election Committee said that until this morning of 10 August,
the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNPR) has not responded to the country’s
election body’s appeal to establish a joint commission to address election
irregularities yet.
The ruling Cambodian People’s
Party (CPP) had already responded, NEC Secretary-General Tep Nitha told the
reporters.
The NEC, in its appeal
released on 9 August, invited the two main political parties that had won seats
in the National Assembly in the July 28 general election to a meeting once
again to establish a joint commission to examine and verify election
irregularities after previous
discussions on the issue had broken down because the CPP did not agree with the
CNRP's proposal to have the U.N. presence in any joint committee that investigates
the poll irregularities.
