Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Hold Talks With Cambodian Leaders

(Kohker) – Visiting Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi paid a courtesy
call on Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen at the peace Palace this morning.
In the
meeting, Mr. Wang conveyed regards from the Chinese leaders to the Cambodian
Prime Minister.
The Chinese leaders also expressed their congratulation to the
Cambodian People’s Party on its victory in the July 28 parliamentary election,
he informed the prime minister.
PM Hun Sen
welcomed Mr. Wang’s visit to the Kingdom and considered the visit to strengthen
further friendship and cooperation between Cambodia and China. He also asked
Mr. Wang to convey his regards to the Chinese leaders.
The Chinese Foreign
minister urged Cambodia to resolve its election problems in a peaceful manner
and through discussions, Mr. Prak Sokhon, Delegate Minister attached to the
Prime Minister, told reporters following the meeting.
PM Hun Sen
told the Chinese foreign minister that the first session of the National
Assembly of Cambodia would be held in 60 days after the July 28 general election
and the establishment of a new Royal government would proceed as planned.
The two
leaders also discussed and exchanged information on the situation in Cambodia
and China.
Mr. Wang
informed PM Hun Sent that the Chinese Prime Minister is looking forward to holding
talks with him on the cooperation between the two countries in Nanning province
of China when the Cambodian prime minister visits the province to attend a
trade exhibition early next month.
In response,
PM Hun Sen said he will go to Nanning to meet with his Chinese counterpart.
The Chinese
foreign minister also held a bilateral talk with his Cambodian counterpart Mr.
Hor Namhong at lunch time today at the Intercontinental Hotel in Phnom Penh.
According to Mr. Prak Sokhon, the diplomatic heads of the two countries will
discuss about the Cambodia-China profound cooperation before issuing a joint
statement.
Mr. Wang Yi
arrived in Phnom Penh capital on Tuesday night for a two-day official visit, at
the invitation Mr. Hor Namhong, Cambodian deputy Prime Minister and Minister of
Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. His Visit to Cambodia also
coincides with the celebration this year 2013 of the 55th Anniversary
of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Cambodia and China and the
Cambodia-China Year of Friendship.
