Cambodia's Defense Ministry Denies Suspension of Military Cooperation with the United States
Cambodia - Lt-Gen. Nim Sowath, Director-General of Policy and Foreign Affairs of Cambodia's Ministry of National Defence, denied a media report that Cambodia had suspended or canceled its military cooperation programs with the United States and other countries. The Lt. General said at a news conference this morning that Cambodia's military cooperation programs with its international partners are going on actively in accordance with the plans that Cambodia has with its partners, except some military programs with the United State that had been postponed in order to follow the government's policy and current situation.
"We postponed some cooperation programs with the US only because our possibility and resources are limited," he said. "So we need more time to prepare ourselves for the cooperation."
Some newspapers on Monday quoted the US State Department as reporting that Cambodia had suspended its international military cooperation programs with the United States and others following that country's recent, disputed election.
