Constitutional Council Says It May Order NEC to Open "Safety Packages A" For Verification of Election Results
Cambodia (Kohker) - General Secretariat of the Constitutional Council of Cambodia issued a statement today, informing the public that it had received 39 complaints against the recent parliamentary election and had already resolved 24 of them." The Constitutional Council is considering and investigating the remaining 15 complaints, all of which are against the preliminary results of the election," underlined the statement.
"According to the law on the Organization and Functioning of the Constitutional Council, the law on the Election of the National Assembly Members, the council's internal rule and the election procedures, the Constitutional Council may decide to order the NEC to open some 'safety packages A' [in which original documents involving vote counting and data of votes received by political parties at polling stations etc. are kept] for verification of the election results and the Constitutional Council may hold public hearings to deal with the complaints soon," concluded the statement.
