CNRP Allowed to Hold Gathering at Freedom
Cambodia (Kohker) – The Ministry of Interior has
decided to allow the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) to hold a
meeting with its supporters at the Freedom Park in Phnom Penh next Monday under
some conditions.
Interior Ministry Spokesman Lt. General Khieu Sopheak
said on Friday that the CNRP had agreed to define a proper number of
participants for the meeting, not add more party activists from provinces,
assure safety at the gathering, finish the meeting before 6:00 p.m., and not
hold any march after fishing it.
The CNRP on August 21
issued a notification saying its president Sam Rainsy and vice-president Kem
Sokha would hold a meeting with voters at Phnom Penh’s Freedom Park on Monday,
August 26, 2013 at 4:00 p.m.
While visiting vendors at
Olympic market in Phnom Penh on Friday, CNPR President Sam Rainsy told
reporters that the gathering was just a normal meeting with voters, not a demonstration
against the recent election results.
