Cambodia's Election Body Appeals to CPP, CNRP to Meet to Establish Commission
Cambodia - The National Election Committee (NEC) has appealed to the two main political parties that have won seats in National Assembly in the recently general election to a meeting once again to establish a joint commission to examine and verify election irregularities.According to its appeal issued today ( 9 August 2013), the NEC said it had invited the two political parties, the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP), for a meeting once on 3 August, and during the meeting they agreed in principle to establish a special joint commission to address irregularities in the July 28 election. However, the second meeting to decide on the composition, mandate, function and duties of the commission could not be held.
"Once again, with the responsibility and willingness to achieve a transparent mechanism, the NEC would like to invite the CPP and the CNRP to come together and meet in order to extablish a specail join committee," the statement added.
