Phnom Penh Municipal Authorities Allows Opposition Party To Hold Protest
Cambodia (Kohker) - Phnom Penh Municipal Hall has decided to allow opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) to hold a non-violent demonstration at the Freedom Park on Saturday, 7 September 2013.
The decision was made following a three-hour meeting between the municipal authorities and representatives of the opposition party on the afternoon of September 3. According to the Municipal Hall's spokesman, the CNRP agreed to begin the protest at 7:00 a.m. and finish it at 12:00 noon at the latest without conducting any street march after the gathering.
CNRP leaders have announced recently that the planned protest will include prayer and meditation for peace. They also assured that the protest would be nonviolent and peaceful. Their announcement came after Cambodian King, His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, had issued a Royal message calling for peace and calm.
