Free Trade Union Leader Calls on Workers to Boycott Overtime Work
Cambodia (Kohker) – President of
the Free Trade Union of Workers of the Kingdom of Cambodia (FTUWKC) has called
upon 100 thousand garment factory workers who are members of his union and other
workers not to work overtime on Saturday, 7 September 2013, the day when the
opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party will hold a mass non-violent
demonstration against the results of the recent general election.
In an appeal released this morning, FTUWKC President Chea Mony said the purpose of the boycott on overtime work is to demand the National Election Committee and the Constitutional Council provide justice to the voters, and the Kampong Speu Provincial Court release 8 jailed workers of Sabrina Garment Factory, some of whom are staff members of the FTUWKC.
The 8 workers were arrested and
detained since June on charges of damaging property and inciting violence
during a protest outside the factory then.
