King Calls on Compatriots to Stop Using Violence
Cambodia (Kohker) – His Majesty
Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, issued a Royal message this morning urging
all demonstrators and authorities to cease using violence after violent clashes
erupted Sunday, the first day when the opposition Cambodia National Rescue
Party (CNRP) began its three-day mass demonstration to protest the results of
the recent general election.
The violent clashes between the
protesters and the security forces that took place at least at two different
places on the evening of that day resulted in a man being shot dead and several
people, including security men, getting injured.
“I would like to urge all protesters and authorities to stop using violence in any form such as throwing stones and using weapons, which could cause injuries or loss of lives,” the King said in the message. “Please, my beloved compatriots, return to the tradition of non violence, tolerance and utmost restraint in order to avoid national instability.”
The King also expressed his sadness
and extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the injured,
and called on the people to maintain dignity and remain calm so that there will
be a chance to resolve the national issues in a peaceful manner.
