CPP Says Its Elected Lawmakers are Ready to Attend NA Opening Session
Cambodia (Kohker) – The ruling
Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) issued an open statement on 19 September 2013 announcing
that all its elected lawmakers will attend the 1st session of the
National Assembly on 23 September 2013, at the invitation of the King.
His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni,
King of Cambodia, on 14 September 2013 sent invitations to all elected 123 parliamentarians
to attend the first session of the National Assembly for the fifth term at the
Assembly building on 23 September 2013 at 8:00 a.m.
“The CPP would like to express
its profound gratitude to His Majesty the King, a symbol of unity and eternity
of the nation, and would like to solemnly announce that all 68 elected parliamentarians
for the fifth term of the CPP follow the brilliant idea of His Majesty the King
and have already prepared to attend the first session of the National Assembly
for the 5th legislature under the supreme presidency of His Majesty
the King on 23 September 2013,” read the ruling party’s statement.
The King on 18 September also
sent a letter to all 55 lawmakers of the opposition Cambodia National Rescue
Party (CNRP), reminding them to attend the opening session of the National
Assembly on the above date.
CNRP senior officials said that their
lawmakers had already received the 14 September invitations, as well as the 18 September
letter, from the king but they would not attend the opening session of the
National Assembly unless justice is found for voters first.
Cambodia has faced political crisis after the July 28 General Election because the CNRP dismisses the election results claiming that the election was full of irregularities, and has demanded independent probe into them.
