CPP Says It’s Ready To Talk With Opposition Party on Election Issues
Cambodia (Kohker) - President of the
ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) has responded to the country’s main opposition
party leader’s letter requesting a top level meeting to resolve their election
disputes.
“Responding to your letter, I
have the honor to inform you that the CPP has already confirmed its position
and its readiness for negotiation to solve the remaining issues with the CNRP
based on the outcome of the election and the spirit of national reconciliation,”
CPP President Samdech Chea Sim said in a letter dated Aug 31 to Mr. Sam Rainsy,
President of the Cambodia National Rescue Party.
In his letter dated August 30 to
CPP President, Mr. Sam Rainsy wrote, “Standing on the spirit of resolving
remaining problems peacefully in the spirit of national reconciliation and
unification, and assuring justice and peacefulness of the people... I support
any negotiating meetings between the top leaders of the CNRP and the CPP in
order to find solutions to the irregularities of the fifth parliamentary
election on July 28 and to reach political reforms for our country's progress.”
“The CPP always embraces its
willingness to hold top level meeting with the CNRP to discuss and resolve
issues related to our two political parties based on the Constitution and laws
in force in the Kingdom of Cambodia,” Samdech Chea Sim wrote in the letter. “In
this spirit, the CPP supports and complies with the Royal guidance of His
Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, who issued the Royal Message dated
Aug 30, 2013.”
He concluded by requesting that communication
between the CPP and CNRP be conducted through Mr. Prum Sokha, the CPP’s working
group.
King Norodom Sihamoni in his Royal
Message released August 30 wrote, “The Kingdom of Cambodia is an independent
and sovereign state with Constitution as a supreme law that our citizens must respect.
Settlement of various issues of our nation should be based upon the
Constitution and entrusted to competent institutions that are stated in the
Constitution and laws of our nation.”
