CPP Thanks King For Chairing Meeting With CNRP
Cambodia (Kohker) - The ruling Cambodian People’s
Party (CPP) has issued a statement expressing its gratitude to His Majesty King
Norodom Sihamoni for presiding over a meeting between top leaders of the CPP
and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) on September 14 and vowing
to always follow the royal guidance.
While presiding over the meeting
between top leaders of the CPP and the CNRP at the Royal Palace on Saturday, the
monarch congratulated both parties that had won support from the voters in
the July 28 parliamentary election and advised their leaders to collaborate in
resolving the national issues in the spirit of
the voters’ will for the common
national interests.
“In this spirit, the CPP has
discussed with the CNRP and agreed to continue the top meeting between the two political
parties at the National Assembly on September 16, 2013 at 9 a.m.,” read the ruling
party’s statement released hours after the meeting with the CNRP held under the
King’s chairmanship.
“Again, the CPP would like to
appeal to all compatriots to adhere to patience and remain calm, and unite in maintaining
peace, social stability for happiness and prosperity of our nation at present
as well as in the future,” concluded the statement.
It should be noticed that in the
short meeting between the CPP and CNRP leaders on Saturday, the King handed over invitation
letters to the upcoming inaugural NA session to 68 CPP lawmakers through Prime
Minister Hun Sen, who led the CPP delegation to the meeting, and 55 others to
CNRP lawmakers through Mr. Sam Rainsy, who headed the opposition delegation.
“I am pleased to call on the newly-elected lawmakers to
participate in the opening session of the National Assembly,” the King said in
the meeting. “I strongly hope and believe that the leaders of the two parties
will follow the people’s wish for happiness, progress, and try their best to
resolve the national issues in the spirit of the voters’ will for the common
national interest.”
