Opposition Confirms its boycott on NA’s Opening Session
Cambodia (Kohker) – Opposition Cambodia National Rescue
Party (CNPR) has announced its decision not to attend first session of the
National Assembly to be held on 23 September under the chairmanship of His
Majesty Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia.
Opposition party president Sam Rainsy told a press
conference held at its headquarters in Phnom Penh this morning that all of the
CNPR’s elected 55 lawmakers will not attend the opening session.
“There is no rush to hold the session as we still have more
time,” he said, adding that his CNRP needs further talks with the ruling
Cambodian People’s Party to resolve their election dispute.
His Majesty the King has announced recently that he will
preside over the National Assembly’s opening session as scheduled on 23 September.
The ruling CPP has also announced that all of its 66
lawmakers will attend the meeting although the opposition will boycott it.
Meanwhile, CNRP senior official Prince Sisowath Thomico has
announced that he will go on hunger strike at Wat Phnom, a Buddhist temple hill
located in the heart of Phnom Penh, in order to demand justice for voters.
