CNRP Leader Visit Phnom Penh's O'Russey Market Vendors

Cambodia (Kohker) - Opposition Cambodia national Rescue Party (CNRP) President Sam Rainsy has told reporters that his party had not received any invitation from His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, inviting newly elected members of the National Assembly of the 5th term to open its first legislative meeting yet.

The opposition leader said this while visiting vendors at Phnom Penh's O'Russey market this morning.

In a letter to National Election Committee President Im Suosdey on September 9, following the committee's announcement of the official results of the July 28 general election, the Cambodian monarch said he would invite all the elected parliamentarians to the first session at the national Assembly on September 23, 2013.

But Sam Rainsy expressed doubt about the letter, saying he did not believe it yet. Sam Ransy also said that the CNRP's elected lawmakers will not attend the 1st session of the National Assembly unless there is a proper solution to the election issue first. The opposition party has alleged that the election was full of serious irregularities and demanded an independent commission be formed to investigate them, but its demand is rejected.

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni will return home tomorrow, from Beijing where he has been staying for a routing medical checkup since August 12. Sam Rainsy and his vice-president Kem Sokha have also planned to welcome the monarch at Phnom Penh International Airport.
