Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force Ships To Visit Cambodia
Cambodia (Kohker) - Three Japanese maritime self-defense
force vessels, “KASHIMA”, “SHIRAYUKI” and “ISOYUKI”, will make a four-day port call
in Cambodia’s coastal province of Preah Sihanouk next week, on the way of their
training cruise in the open sea, according to a press statement of the Embassy
of Japan in Phnom Penh issued on October 2.
The three vessels are led by Rear
Admiral Fumiyuki KITAGAWA, Commander of Japan Training Squadron, the
press release said, stating that the objectives of the visit are to strengthen
friendship between Japan and Cambodia by commemorating the
60th Anniversary of Friendship between the two countries through various
exchange programs as well as to give opportunities for approximately 180 cadet
school graduates to learn about the Kingdom’s culture and military.
During his stay in Cambodia, Rear
Admiral KITAGAWA will visit the Ream Naval Base, the Preah Sihanouk
Provincial Hall and the Port Authority of Sihanoukville on October 11.
He also plans to visit Phnom Penh to pay courtesy calls on Cambodia’s Minister
of National Defense and the Commander of Cambodian Royal Navy on October 12.
